Diabeticlifestyle and diabeticrecipes our two award winning sites for those of us with diabetes and for their families and friends. We thank all of you who are loyal to our sites and who continue to educate yourselves about diabetes. The latest news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that nearly 8 of the U.S. population currently has diabetes. This affects nearly 24 million people an increase of more than 3 million in approximately two years. In addition another 57 million people are estimated to have prediabetes. No wonder so many people come to our sites each month. Thank you for your continued interest. The beginning of the year brings new thoughts of how to live well with diabetes and its complications. Those of us who have lived with diabetes for years know the changes in treatment to control blood glucose levels. Today insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors are ordinary. The soft wear that comes with glucose monitors and these devises make understanding how to better control diabetes easier. Over the holidays we met with an old friend of my husbands who was in the market for a continuous glucose monitor to control his type 2 diabetes which is being treated with insulin. As a physician he knew the importance of keeping his HA1c percentage. The new year also is a great time to see all of your specialists as needed, i.e. internist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, urologist. gynecologist, ophthalmologist, dentist, and periodontist. Sit down with these professionals and find out how you can work together to get your HA1c at the suggested 7 or lower, control any long term complications, or daily short term complications if you feel that they are not in control. Let’s make 2009 our year of good health.
